Adult Education exists to help adults of all ages grow closer to Christ and gain insight into how the Christian message can influence our actions in the world around us. We work hard to create opportunities for thoughtful discussion within our congregation and to provide materials and lectures that inform the members of St. James’.
An Adult Forum is offered at 9:15am every Sunday in the Parish Hall Meeting Room. Topics vary, and are announced in the Sunday bulletin and in the weekly News & Notes email.
A book club meets in the evening on the 4th Sunday of every month; book club selections are decided by the group and announced well in advance. Everyone is welcome – regardless of whether you finished the book!
A Bible study group meets on Thursday mornings from 10:00-11:30am for a look at the lectionary readings for the following Sunday. We read orally, imagine the settings in which these passages took place and their significance to the people involved, and discuss the meanings in our daily lives. It is also a time for a little fellowship and mutual support, for remembering in prayer those in need, and for offering our thanksgivings–a really great personal boost for each of us! (Note: This group is co-ed. While it was women-only for a period of time, all are welcome.)
If you are interested in helping to plan adult education activities, please feel free to join the Adult Ministries Commission. Long term participation in the commission is wonderful, but project or seasonal work is welcome too!
